Menopause is a
time of change. And change, yoga teaches, is inevitable. This special
women's workshop will empower you to move through "the change" with
knowledge, confidence, a relaxed power and compassion.
Rosemary
Phalen, a dedicated yogini, comes to us with several years experience
as a Clinical Specialist in Women's Health and 20 years experience in
the field of Maternal-Child Health. As part of this workshop she will
present information on the physiological and emotional changes
associated with the menopause transition and offer medical and holistic
approaches to support you as you move through this phase of your life.
For the second
part of this workshop, yoga teacher Marnie Bacon will show you how,
through your regular yoga practice, you can calm your emotions and
dissolve tension, anxiety and irritability, and reduce stress on
all levels (stress increases the severity
of menopausal symptoms). Yoga is also thought to be helpful in dealing
with hot flashes, mood smings, insomnia and lack of vitality and
menopause- related fatigue. It can help normalize excessive or
irregular menstrual flow, rejuvenate the reproductive tract,
strenghthen bone mass and regulate the endocrine system. Finally, we
will discuss how yoga's emphasis on meeting challenges with acceptance
and gratitude acts as an antidote to the symptoms of menopause.
To close our
session, herbal tea (special for women) and sweet bread will be
served. There will be time for questions, comments, and
discussion.
Join us for a playful night of letting loose and getting your groove on
to a rich and diverse mix of intoxicating music.
At this fun and enlivening event, we will take a creative approach to
greater health and well being. Drawing from the roots of yoga, this
unique blend of dance and movement supports us in finding comfort,
balance and even pleasure in our own bodies. We are inspired to release
stored body tensions, and to let get of those stubborn inhibitions that
we may find getting in the way of our bliss.
Join Marnie as you move, with feeling, to energizing music from around
the globe. Let your imagination run wild and your creativity flow
freely as you regain fluidity and joy within your own body. Learn to
connect withyour inner rhythms and dance from your heart.
Find freedom in your hips that you didn’t know you had!
In this special workshop, Marnie will share with you her love of hip
opening asana (yoga poses). This session will feature a wide array of
relaxing, challenging and energizing hip-opening stretches. And perhaps
give you the opportunity to deepen your experience with some poses you
may already practice. She will support you (with your permission) with
props and helpful hands-on assists to help you find depth and comfort
in these poses. Some yoga experience recommended. Please bring a small
blanket.

Manganello
Marnie Bacon
and Cranberry Hospice and Palliative Care
Marnie
and
Claire will be working alongside Cranberry Hospice for these special
classes. These sessions are designed to meet the needs of grieving
teens and young adults, to build community, and to offer support and
tools for alleviating stress and healing trauma in a safe , supportive
enviornment. Pizza will be served at 6:30 and Yoga will be from 7-8pm.
Marnie will be there for the sessions on 1/12,2/9, and 3/9.
This Friday evening session will feature call and response chanting,
the singing of devotional songs, mainly in Sanskrit. These “songs” are
prayers: ancient meditations to help relax our minds, open our hearts,
create joy, and equanimity. Unwind as you uplift yourself with sacred
vibrations. This particular spiritual practice, called “Kirtan”, stems
from ancient Indian traditions. ALL faiths are welcome! No experience
(or talent) necessary.
Marnie Bacon is a yoga teacher and musician who draws together her love
of music, prayer and nature, guiding you through this informal practice
where you will be emmersed in the healing powers of sound and song. She
will play her harmonium and is grateful to be accompanied by Alex
Pevzner, a spirited percussionist, who leads drum circles locally on a
regular basis.
